Mexican Altar of the Dead
November 1 @ 11:00 - 12:30
Visit the traditional Mexican Altar of the Dead
Friday, 1st of November at 11:00
Join Diana for a private visit to the impressive building of Mexican Embassy, see the beautiful Altar and learn about the importance of the Altars of the Dead for the Mexican Culture.
The Day of the Dead is a two day holiday that reunites the living and dead. Mexican families create ofrendas (Offerings) to honor their departed family members that have passed. These altars are decorated in vibrant oranges and purples colors, bright yellow marigold flowers, before being piled high with ofrendas such as candles, photos of the departed, personal possessions and the favorite foods and drinks of the one being honored.
The offerings are believed to encourage visits from the land of the dead as the departed souls hear their prayers, smell their foods and join in the celebrations!
The altares (altars) are generally more private affairs that are built at home.
Following this very interesting visit, we could have a lunch at the Nordische Botschaften. Please indicate on your registration if you will stay for the lunch.
